Yesterday, I finished the mortises. They’re a little rough, but I’ll clean them up after I finish the tenons, of which this is the first.
I used a Spear & Jackson 24″ x 7 pt handsaw for the cuts. It is a crosscut saw, but worked ok for these rip cuts. Quite the workout! Three more left to do!

We now have four legs, each fabricated from SYP 2x4s. The next step is to each pair of these legs into left and right bench supports. Each of these supports will be angled toward the center at 15° off the vertical, thus providing rigidity for hand plane activity.
