Just completed my first spreader to leg mortise and tenon. When it fits, it fits. Three more to go.
This mortise was marginally better, and/or easier to complete. I used a wider chisel. Very sharp. But I didn’t get it quite square so the two holes from opposite sides didn’t quite line up. It’ll work for this bench, but I need to be more careful on the next one.
Mortising is quite a learning experience. I have seven more to go on this bench. By then, I should be much better. There is a lot of cleaning up to do on this first mortise. I’m going to take another look at the videos from Paul Sellers. He has some great ideas. And this video…
