This mortise was marginally better, and/or easier to complete. I used a wider chisel. Very sharp. But I didn’t get it quite square so the two holes from opposite sides didn’t quite line up. It’ll work for this bench, but I need to be more careful on the next one.

Nice Legs

We now have four legs, each fabricated from SYP 2x4s. The next step is to each pair of these legs into left and right bench supports. Each of these supports will be angled toward the center at 15° off the vertical, thus providing rigidity for hand plane activity.
