A few meetings back, we were discussing the photos I posted of my dad flying the Stearman at Stearman Field, Benton, Kansas. I couldn’t put my hands on this neat video at the time, so here it is now. My dad, aged 96 years in the front seat. He flew this plane as a Naval Air Cadet during WWII. He didn’t get his wings because he washed out because of hay fever. He went on to be the navigator aboard the destroyer USS Fechteler, DDR 870. Though he was disappointed not having the opportunity to fly during the war, he reminded me that many of his classmates didn’t return.
