Beginning at 0900 Central, we had a nice chat this morning with Gary, Roger, Lynn, Mary, and John of Fredonia showing up pretty much all at once. Camera John had a shoot this morning and couldn’t make it.
I began the discussion with my Xtal radio show’n’tell, which prompted Roger to retrieve his out of mothballs. Pretty much everyone had a story to tell about their early experiences with one of these. John built one of these using a razor blade, the foxhole radio, back when he was about ten; no DX but the local stations in Des Moine came in Q5! I had forgotten until now, but my Dad got me a Sputnik crystal radio when I was about 10. The Russian satellite Sputnik was launched in 1957.
John also regaled us with stories of Couples Negril, Jamaica, flight experiences, dining out again, and the decline of beer consumption. Evidently, at John’s resort, there are Hobie Cats available for guests. And the water is clear and smooth. He recommends the late winter months; in May it gets muggy. My cat is pictured above, on the shores of Schroon Lake, Upstate, NY. The color scheme was called Tequila Sunrise.
Quite a few of us are now relaxing our guard with higher percentages of people being vaccinated, eating out more. Panera Bread is reportedly approaching capacity once again. It looks like life may return to normal sooner than we expected!
Next Zoom net: Saturday morning, 0800 Central. See you then!
