Where to Meet?
After a lengthy email thread regarding where we should meet, Roger finally decided we should go to Panera. However, in the future, now that Einstein’s is back in full operation, we should probably go according to the RadioGuys posted schedule. Which brings us right back to Panera next week.
Antenna Hookup
At my end of the table, Harry and I talked about how to hook up my KX3 to get all that wonderful DX real hams get…
He showed me his interface through a DX Engineering 4:1 balun that feeds his wire antenna. Pictured above is a pigtail I could use to hook up my SG-239. I have two of these tuners, one leftover from my dad’s shack. He’d be pleased to see it back in operation.
Frig Status
Meanwhile, I’m sure everyone is concerned about our refrigerator. The repairman was here on Tuesday and found this frozen evaporator. Now, that’s cold. He came back last night with the “defrost sensor replacement” part ($156.00) and we’re back in business.
So, this morning I checked the temperature of the frig and it was at a nice 36° F (2° C). It’ll be nice to have the extra capacity for our vegan family of two… After all, I need a place to keep my gallon of maple syrup.
Rods and Pounders
And before I forget, I want to thank Roger for passing along his heavy duty ground rod, years ago acquired from John FUZ. I’m sure I’ll put that to good use – hopefully, soon! Lynn offered to lend me his “pipe pounder (!)”, which he offered to have with him Saturday at breakfast. (Did I mention that was at the Big Biscuit at 0730 Central?!)
Nuked!
While trying to figure out why my “just out of mothballs” Yaesu FT-270R wasn’t working right, we noticed the little “Nuke ’em” symbol in the display.
FUZ has one of these radios also and didn’t remember it’s function. After Reading The Frelling Manual (RTFM!), we learned that is the “Vertex Standard WiRESTM (Wide-Coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System)”. It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. In fact, Lynn used it just the other day! Pressing the (Set/0)toggles it on and off.
145.77 or 146.52 or ?
As a reminder, I’m not sure we’ve come to a consensus on a VHF frequency…
Next Meetings
Saturday: Big Biscuit, 0730
Wednesday: According to RadioGuys… if I’ve done my math right, that would the second Wednesday – Panera’s again.
